Acetone dulls the floating Purple People Eaters

In previous shoes, I have dyed the soles first and then barged them onto the shoe. Unfortunately, the dye hardens the veg-tan and it does not conform to the bottom of the shoe as well as it does pre-treated. This time I only dyed the edges first and saved the bottom of the soles until after they were affixed to the shoe. Another lesson learned: Dye slides right off barge. Therefore, I had to dab the dye on verses brushing it on. I did not realize that some of the dye had dripped onto the shoes themselves until it was too late. I used Acetone to remove the dye from the eyelet and the leather, but it slightly discolored the leather where I used it.
